Griz,
I guess I'm willing to go to a meeting if it is needed to express opinions--but I'm not sure how this process works and what I can bring to the meeting. Let me know if someone more informed can explain what we need to do to keep trails open.

I don’t know what to expect but I am going to try to make it to as many of the meetings as possible but I am tied up at work right now

If you like to rider areas like Monticello canyon, Withington lookout, north Baldy trail, South canyon, or anything on the Bear mountains or the Datil mountains it might be a good idea to go to one of these meetings

MAGDALENA RANGER DISTRICT TO HOST PUBLIC WORKSHOPS ADDRESSING MOTORIZED TRAVEL MANAGEMENT
Magdalena, NM – January 12, 2010 – The Cibola National Forest is hosting six community workshops to discuss motorized vehicle use on the Magdalena Ranger District. The USDA Forest Service issued the Travel Management Rule in 2005 that requires each National Forest and Grassland to designate roads, trails, and areas open for motorized use. When the designation process is completed, a Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) will be published showing the system of roads, trails and/or areas designated for motorized use. Motorized use will then be prohibited outside the designated system.
Participation in these workshops will help Forest Service staff understand the preferences and concerns about motorized use on the Magdalena Ranger District. Participants will also have the opportunity to identify high priority routes, trails, and areas and to share why these routes are important to them. Participant responses will help inform the development of the proposed action.
The community workshops are scheduled for the following dates/times and locations:

The Cibola National Forest is committed to the collaborative process as it begins Travel Management on the Magdalena Ranger District. Anyone with an interest in motor vehicle use on the Magdalena Ranger District is encouraged to participate. I am going to try to go to the one in Magdalena and I will let you know what happens

I just got back from the first meeting and I don’t think this is going to be handled like the blm did it or the Jemez/ Santa Fe. It looks like we have this week to voice your opinion and than in a few months they will show the finished map
So show up now or forget about legally riding there

Thanks for the heads up, Chris. I'll be at the Sat, Jan 30 meeting in Socorro.

What are they talking about closing? The roads that I've been on in the Magdalenas are well-established fire roads that jeeps can get through most of the time. Any environmental impact happened a long time ago. Are there noise complaints? Are there dirt bike hooligans carving new illegal trails? In short: is there some recent issue here, or is this a standard review that happens every 10 years or whatever?

Hope to see some of you on saturday.

Can't make it right now, keep us posted.

It is the forest service shutting the forest down to any motorized vehicles except for there uses and the cattle ranchers. So the only roads you can go on are going to be the paved and bladed roads
