travel management for the Magdalena ranger district

It sounds like FS is going to start its travel management for the Magdalena ranger district I have been out of the loop on that one but there was a list of meetings in the local paper, and here is a link to the web site

I guess I'm willing to go to a meeting if it is needed to express opinions--but I'm not sure how this process works and what I can bring to the meeting. Let me know if someone more informed can explain what we need to do to keep trails open.; ▶ Reply to This

MAGDALENA RANGER DISTRICT TO HOST PUBLIC WORKSHOPS ADDRESSING MOTORIZED TRAVEL MANAGEMENT
Magdalena, NM – January 12, 2010 – The Cibola National Forest is hosting six community workshops to discuss motorized vehicle use on the Magdalena Ranger District. The USDA Forest Service issued the Travel Management Rule in 2005 that requires each National Forest and Grassland to designate roads, trails, and areas open for motorized use. When the designation process is completed, a Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) will be published showing the system of roads, trails and/or areas designated for motorized use. Motorized use will then be prohibited outside the designated system.
Participation in these workshops will help Forest Service staff understand the preferences and concerns about motorized use on the Magdalena Ranger District. Participants will also have the opportunity to identify high priority routes, trails, and areas and to share why these routes are important to them. Participant responses will help inform the development of the proposed action.

What are they talking about closing? The roads that I've been on in the Magdalenas are well-established fire roads that jeeps can get through most of the time. Any environmental impact happened a long time ago. Are there noise complaints? Are there dirt bike hooligans carving new illegal trails? In short: is there some recent issue here, or is this a standard review that happens every 10 years or whatever?
