GPS made me more comfortable in where I was going, especially since I was alone. I also like it because I know once I reach BLM land I am free to camp primitively. I like GPS alot but it takes up a lot of time setting up the routes and waypoints an…

Glimpses of ride to top of Mt. Taylor along FR 50 in the Cibola NF

No shot from top as the batteries died. Glad to be riding again after getting the clutch fixed.

It's a fast and fun big bike ride for sure- getting to the top is a tiny bit challenging on FR 453 but completely doable. Continue

4 Days, 3 Nights, 2 national forests, 2 wrecks, and a Ruin

Hitting the Continental Dived in Colorado was my original plan, but then I realized it would be six days up and back to do that portion and I just didn’t have that much time. The continental divide will have to wait for a dedicated set of many days. So I devised a plan to spend a couple of days in the GIla National Forest in New Mexico.

The plan was ambitious and supported only by the knowledge I had of the Gila from travels by truck through the area, and by my trip last year on FR 150 on the C… Continue

Mt. Withington Montecello Ride Report

Grizzly led us on a fantastic ride Sunday! It started with lots of hints of rain, and big rain for those coming from Socorro, but the rain remained a very minor player in this ride. 14 started the ride and then near the end of the day we broke into two groups to head back.

The highlight for me was riding through the box canyon- I think it was for everyone else too! I also thought the trip to the top of Withington was amazing, but it came in second to the canyon with its multiple water crossings… Continue

Cibola NF on a Beautiful Day

Friday was just too gorgeous not to ride so I sidelined some other "less important" tasks and went for an easy cruise in the Cibola National Forest. The plan was to ride FR 50 From Ft. Wingate to Grants and if there was time ride up to the peak of Mt. Taylor.

FR 50 is an easy ride with little in difficulty except some sandy patches when the roads have been dry- but with our recent rain the road had mud holes instead of sand and I prefer short runs of mud to sand any day.

As expected FR50 was a… Continue

How did the ride in the Gila go? I just saw your gas thread and it wouldn’t let me post over there or send you a PM.
I think I might of seen a pump around San Lorenzo or Membres, I was just over there about a month ago here are my pictures from that loop

(btw the road from late Roberts to Pinos Altosis one of the most fun slab’s in the state!)

I have ridden the Zuni Mtns. a few times, assuming this is the area of the Cibola Nat. For. you are talking about, and there is some beautiful riding there. I have ridden mostly on the east end, but have ridden from Zuni Canyon to Ft. Wingate and back via several routes. I think this would make a fantastic DS ride in an area that is not ridden much. It can also be combined with a loop through the Mt. Taylor/La Mosca Peak area for a great loop. I think it is a good idea for a future ride. Keep me posted!

I'll assume this is in the Chuska Mountains along the AZ/NM border?
This appears to be a very beautiful area. I've always wanted to explore around that range. Keep the photos coming!
