I haven't been to the base of cerro pedernal, but have ridden the other roads mentioned. All are pretty good roads for a GS or other large bike with the exception of taking weather into consideration. Wendell

Pedernal? where's that? I see Pedernal Mtn. south of Clines Corner. (always looking for interesting places to go.) Wendell

You shouldn't have any problems once things dry up a bit in late spring. I've done most of the main forest roads on a v-strom so your GS will be fine. You should swing through FR376 down to the Gilman tunnels while you are in the area. Wendell

I've been caught in mud out there so bad that the rear wheel locked up solid from mud packed between the rear tire and swingarm and in the countershaft area. Took 45 minutes of digging with sticks to get the bike rolling again. That stuff can be mea…

We tried to clean the bikes at a car wash, but the change machine didn't work. I washed mine off in the driveway at home and yes it made a mess, but with the rain coming down at the time I was able to wash off the drive. I don't know what the gray m…

Went to Cuba but forgot the cigars

Aaron, John, Mark and myself met this morning at the Walatowa gas stop to ride to Cuba via forest roads. For the most part it was fairly easy riding as we stayed on the major roads. I had found a look out on the map so we went to investigate.

Camino Amarillo

While comparing the forest service plans for road and trail closures (existing vs. proposed) I came across an addition to the trail system. The proposed trails showed a link from Bridge Rd. (which runs above Jemez Springs to the east) to Camino Amarillo in Canon (just north of the Walatowa visitor center). I had been down Bridge Rd. and found a cut off to the south marked with rock cairns and occasional ribbons, but lost the trail. Sunday I went up the Camino Amarillo end to check it out.

Ditch,

Thank you for the reply. My wife and I both have DR's. She has the Blue and I have the Black. We are looking for some nice area's to ride and that video looked like a nice area. We do not like the sand. We still have the stock tires. We will keep them until they are bald I guess. We also have just sold our horses and are looking for some nice long rides with nice facilities in the area.
