Took a little ride to check out the exclusive Rio Puerco Yacht Club. No one was there to accept my membership application. The brine water desalinization place is in the background.

From there I rode past a hoo doo area, the

buggs Saying Hello to Bato

I saw that Everest was starting to move around and moan. I got closer to him and told him not to move. He didn’t listen to me, he tried to stand up and fell back down. I was also concerned about coming traffic, especially the ones coming from the south around the bend. Vehicles travel fast on this road and there were two people laying in the middle of the street. I helped Everest move to the side of the road. I asked him if he was ok and if anything hurt. He looked at me and asked what happened.… Continue

buggs The Curse of Casarare

The Chihuahua state highway from Creel is a well maintained paved road that winds through beautiful Ponderosa and pine trees. It had snowed yesterday but today was all blue sky. The nice asphalt was already dry from the melting snow and as I accelerated, I realized that this road was made to be ridden in motorcycles. As I leaned my bike to the right on another twisty curve I could hear the knobby tires of my DR650 dual sport bike squeak a bit in protest as the rubber met the pavement. I was car… Continue

Buddy_Holly Glimpses of ride to top of Mt. Taylor along FR 50 in the Cibola NF

No shot from top as the batteries died. Glad to be riding again after getting the clutch fixed. It's a fast and fun big bike ride for sure- getting to the top is a tiny bit challenging on FR 453 but completely doable. Continue

Buddy_Holly 4 Days, 3 Nights, 2 national forests, 2 wrecks, and a Ruin

Hitting the Continental Dived in Colorado was my original plan, but then I realized it would be six days up and back to do that portion and I just didn’t have that much time. The continental divide will have to wait for a dedicated set of many days. So I devised a plan to spend a couple of days in the GIla National Forest in New Mexico. The plan was ambitious and supported only by the knowledge I had of the Gila from travels by truck through the area, and by my trip last year on FR 150 on the C… Continue

Steve Give it some throttle and watch out for that moose.

Like a lot of guys I was hoping to go to West Fest this year. A change in family vacation plans had me in Colorado that week, but in Grand Lake, which was far north of the moto-camaraderie in which I was hoping to share. Still, I knew I would get on the bike a couple of days that week and I was determined to get in some good riding. After much research, including a query of locals, I had a color, waterproof map of a prime riding area. Only I forgot it at home. Enter Jerry. Jerry owns the cabin… Continue

Roger Payne A few rides from June and July

This is my first time at posting a ride or pictures on this site. Thought that I would try it out by telling of a few rides done over the past 60 days. Nothing long and just a few pictures to see how it works. All of the following are day trips from Albuquerque. I rode a solo out of Edgewood and took the dirt road to White Lakes and across to Leyba and down to Villanueva. I wanted to find the Leyba to Rowe Mesa road but I missed it. Circled north to I- 25 then down to the Rowe Mesa turn off and… Continue

Jody H North end of the Guadalupe Mtns.

Took a 280 mile day trip today. My route was from home, into the Guadalupe Mtns., forest service roads and trails from Queen, NM to Hope, NM., then return home. Worked out to about 180 miles of pavement and 100 miles of dirt. Heres are a few of the highlights. Say hello to my little friend:

Overlooking the "Broke Off Mtns." from the "Rim Road".

JMG Corona, New Mexico, Center of the Universe

There are lots of motorcycle groups in New Mexico that post rides online around the state and region, and Ninja Dave belongs to all of them. When he’s not working or sleeping (or engaged in other activities we probably don’t really want to know about), he’s riding his motorcycle on epic rides to anywhere and nowhere either alone or with one of these groups. Dave has specialized expertise in fixing esoteric heaters, coolers and such, so his job sends him all over the state to the most out-of-the… Continue

ditch Went to Cuba but forgot the cigars

Aaron, John, Mark and myself met this morning at the Walatowa gas stop to ride to Cuba via forest roads. For the most part it was fairly easy riding as we stayed on the major roads. I had found a look out on the map so we went to investigate. We found this.

Great views overlooking H… Continue

ditch Camino Amarillo

While comparing the forest service plans for road and trail closures (existing vs. proposed) I came across an addition to the trail system. The proposed trails showed a link from Bridge Rd. (which runs above Jemez Springs to the east) to Camino Amarillo in Canon (just north of the Walatowa visitor center). I had been down Bridge Rd. and found a cut off to the south marked with rock cairns and occasional ribbons, but lost the trail. Sunday I went up the Camino Amarillo end to check it out. One o… Continue

Buddy_Holly Mt. Withington <------> Montecello Ride Report

Grizzly led us on a fantastic ride Sunday! It started with lots of hints of rain, and big rain for those coming from Socorro, but the rain remained a very minor player in this ride. 14 started the ride and then near the end of the day we broke into two groups to head back. The highlight for me was riding through the box canyon- I think it was for everyone else too! I also thought the trip to the top of Withington was amazing, but it came in second to the canyon with its multiple water crossings… Continue
